Class Descriptions:

Beginner Class: We require every club member to first have the basic understanding of the sport of fencing. If you’re new, that means taking one of our beginner or introductory paths. If you’ve fenced before, reach out to a coach to discuss.

Intermediate Class: Our Intermediate Class is designed to teach you the core concepts of fencing, vocabulary, and tactics. This is where you land after the Beginner Class. These classes focus on a single weapon, Foil or Epee. This class covers the same topics on a roughly 2 month loop, so if you have to miss a class, we’ll come back to it! And the material we cover is designed to be additive – even if you’ve done a topic multiple times, you should continue to get something out of it each time. After a few months you should feel comfortable joining us in Open Fencing. Students who enjoy fencing but aren’t looking to compete can stay in this class for as long as they want.

Open Fencing: We have Open Fencing multiple times a week – it is simply open hours where you can stop by and hop on the strip to face off against whoever else showed up that day! Open Fencing is critical to developing the skills you work on in class into real-life bouts. Ask a coach for our most popular days. You can join Open Fencing whenever you feel comfortable fencing electric. Electric gear is available to borrow, but fencers that regularly attend Open Fencing should think about owning their own gear.

Private Lessons: 1-on-1 lessons are optionally available for fencers of any age and skill level who want to get better faster. Anyone Intermediate Class or beyond can schedule them. Lessons are required for Competitive students – that’s how important they are! Talk to a coach to learn more.

PreCompetitive Class: Our Pre-Competitive Class is designed for the fencer who has mastered the skills in the Intermediate class, has Open Fenced for a while, and wants to take things to the next level. Maybe they aren’t ready to compete in a real tournament yet, but they are at least interested in doing so. To join, you must own a full set of electric equipment and get coach approval.

Competitive Program: Our Competitive Program is for the fencer who has competed in local tournaments and wants to succeed. This program is more than just a class, and is customized for each participant. This program includes one 15 minute lesson per class period. Actively competing in local, regional and (once ready) national tournaments are a requirement to join. To learn more or potentially join this program, reach out to your coach.
